Victor Olgyay

Victor Olgyay is a Principal Architect on RMI’s Built Environment Team. Olgyay has a wide range of experience in architectural design, planning, laboratory design and integration, environmental and acoustical systems, with specialization in lighting and daylighting design.
Working independently and with several private and state firms doing architectural design, programming, post-occupancy evaluations and design guidelines, Olgyay has overseen numerous energy, environmental and lighting research projects under contract to various state and federal agencies. From 1993 to 2000, Olgyay was an Associate Professor and Director of Research at the University of Hawaii School of Architecture. He served as Chairman of the American Institute of Architects’ (AIA) Honolulu Energy and Environment Committee from 1995 to 2000 and, in 1998, was named a Dana Fellow of the Joslyn Castle Institute for Sustainable Communities.
Olgyay is on the Board of Directors for the American Solar Energy Association, and is working with the U.S. Green Building Council on their international Task Force and Life Cycle Assessment group. His recent research has focused on ecological restoration and ecosystem services as a criteria for green building assessment. His current research focuses on developing applications to demonstrate quantifiable reductions in carbon emissions, water use, and ecological footprints achievable by implementing various design measures.
